Proximity Sensors
A proximity sensor detects the presence or approach of nearby objects without physical contact. It includes various types like inductive, capacitive, photoelectric, and magnetic sensors, each using different principles such as inductance and eddy currents. These sensors are designed for fast response times, triggering an output when an object is detected. While their sensing technology varies, their purpose remains the same.
The sensor emits an electromagnetic field or a beam (such as infrared) and detects changes in the return signal when an object is present. For instance, inductive sensors detect metal objects by sensing disturbances in an oscillating field. We offer these sensors in various sizes and diameters to suit different applications.
Types of Proximity Sensors:
- Inductive Proximity Sensor: Detects metallic objects using an electromagnetic field, ideal for accurate, non-contact detection in machinery or automation.
- Capacitive Proximity Sensor: Detects both metallic and non-metallic objects, commonly used for level and flow control of liquids, grains, and powders.
- Photoelectric Proximity Sensor: Uses a light source and receiver to detect objects.
- Magnetic Proximity Sensor: Operates using an electrical switch triggered by permanent magnets in the sensing area, offering reliable detection without complex mounting requirements.
Applications:
Proximity sensors are versatile and can be used in various environments, especially where detecting objects in a defined range is necessary. Common applications include:
- Object position detection
- Transportation and logistics
- Inspection and quality assurance
- Process control
- Level detection
- Food processing
- Agriculture
They are particularly useful in conditions involving oil or water, as well as fluctuating or extreme temperatures (-50°C to 100°C). The type of sensor chosen depends on the object being detected:
- Capacitive sensors: Best for metals, liquids, resins, and powders.
- Inductive sensors: Ideal for metals like aluminum, copper, brass, and iron.
- Magnetic sensors: Suitable for detecting magnets.
