The rapid rise of ARM in the development community is turning heads, particularly among those involved in .NET development. This article explores the opportunities and challenges of .NET development on ARM processors. We will also examine the tools and frameworks that can streamline this process and look into the future role of ARM in shaping the development landscape.
Need a high-performing and reliable ARM® embedded IoT device for secure automation and industrial IoT applications? For a very low price point, this ARM® Cortex-M7 embedded system-on-module (SOM) solves the problem of securely network-enabling devices with 10/100 Ethernet, including those requiring SSL/TLS, machine-to-machine (M2M) protocols, digital, analog and serial control, and much more. The product can also be used as an edge node microcontroller, edge processor or IoT gateway.
Digi’s Net+Arm® Microcontrollers are system-on-chip (SoC) ASIC designed for use in intelligent networked devices and internet appliances. This processor is based on the standard architecture in the Net+Arm family of devices. The NS7520 can support most any networking scenario and includes a 10/100BaseT Ethernet MAC and two independent serial ports (each of which can run in UART or SPI mode). The CPU is an ARM7TDMI 32-bit RISC processor core with a rich complement of support peripherals and memory controllers for various types of memory (including Flash, SDRAM, EEPROM, and others), programmable timers, a 13-channel DMA controller, an external bus expansion module, and 16 general-purpose input/output (GPIO) pins.
The Net+Arm® Microcontroller is a single chip 0.13 µm CMOS network-attached processor. The CPU is the ARM926EJ-S core with MMU, DSP extensions, Jazelle Java accelerator, and 8 kB of instruction cache and 4 kB of data cache in a Harvard architecture. The Net+Arm® Microcontroller runs up to 177 MHz, with an 88 MHz system and memory bus, and 44 MHz peripheral bus. The Net+Arm® Microcontroller operates at a 1.5 V core and 3.3 V I/O ring voltages. The Net+Arm® Microcontroller is designed specifically for use in high performance intelligent networked devices and Internet appliances including high performance/low-latency remote I/O, intelligent networked information displays, and streaming and surveillance cameras. The Net+Arm® Microcontroller is a member of the award-winning Net+Arm family of SoC solutions for embedded systems. Product unit costs are reduced dramatically with complete SoC, including Ethernet, display support, a robust peripheral set, and the processing headroom to meet the most demanding applications.
