A rivet nut, originally trademarked as RIVNUT® by Boellhoff, is a counterbored tubular rivet with internal female threads that act as a nut. Boellhoff has been distributing RIVNUT® for nearly 40 years. Designed to be installed into parent applications, typically thin sheet metal or plastic, the rivet nut forms a bulge on the back side during installation. This process takes seconds and requires no secondary finishing work. Once installed, the rivet nut secures the front and back of the parent application, allowing a male threaded bolt to be tightened into its threads. The installed RIVNUT® provides reusable, high-quality internal threads for secondary attachments via a threaded bolt. In essence, RIVNUTS® function both as a rivet to assemble materials and as a nut for the removable attachment of a mating part with a male bolt.
