General Semiconductors2001: General Semiconductor is acquired by Vishay Intertechnology. Vishay Intertechnology, which is headquartered in Malvern, Pennsylvania, produces discrete semiconductors, such as diodes and transistors, as well as passive electronic components, such as resistors, capacitors and inductors. With sales of $2.5 billion in 2000, the company claims it is the largest U.S. and European manufacturer of passive electronic components. General Semiconductor produces power management devices such as its adjustable voltage regulator, called the GS1117, and a line of 1500 Volt damper diodes for CRT (cathode ray tubes) horizontal deflection circuits.
