Panduit Ferrules
A crimp ferrule, also known as a wire ferrule or electrical ferrule, is a soft metal tube used to secure the ends of stripped wires, preventing the strands from fraying inside a terminal. These ferrules are typically made of copper and plated with tin. The size of a ferrule, including its diameter and length, is determined by the specific wire gauge it is designed to fit.
An electrical ferrule features a flare at one end, which gathers and bundles the individual wire strands as they are inserted into the ferrule. This flare is usually covered by a conical plastic cable entry sleeve, which provides a smooth transition between the wire insulation and the ferrule. The plastic sleeve remains intact around the insulation and is not crimped during installation, unlike in traditional crimp connections. Ferrules are often color-coded to indicate the wire size they are compatible with.
