IC & Component Sockets

IC and component sockets are connectors used in electronic circuits to enable the easy insertion, removal, and replacement of integrated circuits (ICs), transistors, and other discrete components without soldering. These sockets ensure a reliable electrical interface while supporting repeated use, making them ideal for prototyping, testing, and maintenance.

IC sockets are designed to securely hold ICs and are available in several configurations, such as dual in-line package (DIP) and zero insertion force (ZIF) types. Component sockets, meanwhile, are suited for discrete parts like resistors and capacitors, providing a standardized and efficient connection method.

Sockets vary by mounting style—such as chassis, panel, connector, surface-mount, and through-hole—and may include features like board guides, flanges, carriers, and open or closed frames. Key differentiators include post pitch, contact material and finish, and termination style, all of which influence performance and compatibility within electronic assemblies.
