These 2mm male header pins are commonly used as low-cost connectors for prototyping PCBs. The standard spacing is the same as on most solderless breadboards and matches standard 0.1″-pitch female connectors. The single-row header strips are available in a variety of lengths, and these are also easy to snap into smaller strips to fit specific application requirements. The double- and triple-row strips, which are only available in 40-pin lengths, can also be broken into smaller strips, but it takes a little more effort, and it is sometimes easier to use wire/diagonal cutters.
A pin header is a form of electrical connector. A male pin header consists of one or more rows of metal pins moulded into a plastic base, often 2.54 mm (0.1 in) apart, though available in many spacings. Male pin headers are cost-effective due to their simplicity. The female counterparts are sometimes known as female socket headers.
