Vitrohm CRP Resistors Series
Quick Overview
Vitrohm Vitrohm CRP Pulse Resistors Series
Modern electronic devices frequently encounter brief spikes in voltage or current, such as inrush current during startup, transient load during the activation of transformers or motors, capacitor charging or discharging, electrostatic discharge sparks, lightning strikes, or overcurrent due to circuit malfunction or crossed lines. The Vitrohm CRP Series Wirewound Resistors offer robust protection against such short-duration impulse events, up to their rated limits.
Details
Pulse resistors are electronic components used to resist changes in electrical current. They are made up of a material with a high resistance to electrical current, and they are usually placed between two conductors to regulate the flow of current between them. Pulse resistors are used in various electronic devices and circuits, and they can protect sensitive components from damage caused by sudden changes in electrical current.
In many applications, the resistor is subjected to pulse loads. We make distinctions between periodical/repetitive loads and pulse trains: on the one hand, where the pulse is repeated at a certain frequency, and on the other, separate pulses where a possible repetition will occur after such a long time that the resistor has recovered its original ambient temperature. The power and thermal behavior of fixed linear resistors are mostly based on DC or RMS loads, but pulse loads, like single energy pulse or a continuous flow of pulses, become more and more an important factor in professional electronics. Pulse load situations for film resistors are not allowed to exceed the following limits: • Single pulses have to be limited in peak power for a given pulse duration • The average power load P of the continuous pulse load shall not exceed the rated power dissipation P70 • The maximum amplitude of pulse voltage, and single and continuous pulses, has to be limited for high ohmic values
Typical applications include automotive, industrial equipment, test and measuring equipment, and medical equipment.

Selecting the appropriate pulse resistor is crucial for managing high-power switching or surges effectively. This component plays a vital role in regulating the current within the circuit. Opting for a pulse resistor that is too small may result in rapid absorption of current, potentially damaging the resistor and disrupting circuit operation. Conversely, choosing a pulse resistor that is too large can lead to excessive voltage drop, hindering the proper functionality of the circuit. Therefore, finding the optimal pulse resistor is essential for maintaining circuit integrity and performance.
