DC-DC Converters

dcdc-converters

AC-DC converters change alternating current (AC) power from wall outlets to direct current (DC) power. DC-DC converters, on the other hand, transform DC power from one voltage level to another. A switching DC-to-DC converter relies on a central controller known as a DC/DC switching regulator chip. This chip serves as the heart of the converter, enabling efficient power conversion. The converter can be configured to produce output supply voltages either higher (boost converter or step-up converter) or lower (buck converter or step-down converter) than the input supply voltage. Thanks to this flexibility, it offers excellent efficiency in converting DC power from one voltage level to another.

DC-DC converters transform a direct current (DC) input voltage into a different DC output voltage. These converters typically maintain nearly the same power level on both the input and output sides, minus minor switching losses. Available in both on-board and off-board mounting options, DC-DC converters come in a wide range of input/output configurations and package types, with single or multiple output capabilities.

Isolated Regulated

Designed for systems based on Intermediate Bus Architecture (IBA), Vicor’s isolated, regulated converters deliver exceptional performance and all the features designers need to build smaller, lighter, and more cost-effective power systems.

Isolated Fixed-Ratio

For well-regulated IBA systems, fixed-ratio converters offer superior efficiency and a more compact footprint compared to fully regulated solutions. These converters enhance overall product and system efficiency, allowing designers to reduce system size and cost.

Non-Isolated Regulated

Vicor’s non-isolated, regulated DC-DC modules provide industry-leading power density and high-efficiency conversion in the smallest available form factors. Their wide input range supports direct-to-point-of-load operation as well as pre- and post-voltage stabilization. This flexibility enables an easy migration from traditional 12V systems to modern 48V architectures, minimizing power loss and maximizing efficiency.

Non-Isolated Fixed-Ratio

The Non-Isolated Bus Architecture (NBA)—an evolution of IBA—was developed to meet the power needs of data centers and high-performance computing systems. Vicor’s non-isolated fixed-ratio converters deliver efficient power conversion in compact packages, allowing designers to integrate 12V loads into 48V systems or extend 48V capabilities into existing 12V infrastructures.

Filters

Vicor’s line of filters supports a wide variety of packaging options, ranging from half-brick modules to surface-mount LGA Systems-in-Package (SiP), providing flexibility and ease of integration.
