Thyristors

Thyristors are robust on-off switches used in a wide range of alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) equipment, primarily in industrial applications. Rectifiers, on the other hand, are electronic components that convert AC into DC by allowing current to flow in a single direction.

These devices are solid-state switches, constructed from semiconductor materials such as transistors and diodes. Semiconductors exhibit electrical conductivity that falls between that of a full conductor, like copper, and an insulator, like glass.

Typical applications of TRIACs and power SCRs include motor speed control, lighting management, and heating system regulation.
